Under: Incident ResponseHow to Use a Hard Hat Medical ID Sticker
When a first responder arrives at the scene of an accident, they need quick access to a causality’s medical information. When someone is unconscious, medical details must be accessed from files or ascertained from colleagues: this can be a slow and unreliable process. In contrast, when a worker has a medical ID sticker (also known as an ICE tag) crucial medical details can be found immediately. This vital information allows for intelligent life-saving treatment to be administered within life-critical time frames and for emergency contacts to be notified immediately.
The importance of early access to a patient’s medical information cannot be understated, it can even mean the difference between life and death. Perhaps you’re on medication or have a pre-existing health condition that will inform the best course of action. Or perhaps you just want peace of mind there won’t be a delay in contacting loved ones in the event of an emergency.
EMITAGs are suitable for use across a wide range of industries including construction and utilities. For such an important piece of kit, they are extremely economical (as little as 95p per EMITAG) and very easy to use. Follow these simple steps are you’ll be ready to go…
1-Fill in your details
Remove the paper from the insert, unfold and fill in both sides of the sheet in permanent marker. Include any medication you are taking, pre-existing health conditions or allergies and your emergency contacts.
2-Place inside pouch
Re-fold the paper and place it inside the pouch with the medical symbol showing the front side up. First responders are trained to look for medical ID – it’s easier to spot with the logo face up.
3-Clean your surface
Carefully clean the surface you are attaching your EMITAG to. One of the most common places to put the EMITAG is on a safety helmet. However, any easily accessible point can be used, such as an ID card holder or the back of a training or skills card.
4-Peel off backing paper
Ensure the paper containing your details is securely inside the pouch. Peel off the backing paper to reveal the adhesive side. Keep this side completely free of debris to maintain stickiness.
5-Attach to surface
Using the adhesive side, securely attach the EMITAG to your chosen position. A flat surface or gentle curve is fine, but make sure the tag isn’t positioned over ridges as this may cause it to come unstuck. Display in the most prominent and visible position possible to make it easy for a medical professional to find in the event of an accident.
